The scandalous “it”, news stories which have circulated throughout the country, went unmentioned by the unmasked and unapologetic politician.
Yes, a lot has been said about the disgraced Babeu, but the self-described hero is delusional if he thinks Arizonans will once more be taken in by what has become the political huckster’s over-used theme – not my own but somebody else’s fault.
At his last appearance before the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, we witnessed his tortured explanation of how his budget deficit and mismanagement were not his, but the Board’s fault.
It is sheer arrogance that he walked out of the supervisors meeting proclaiming “our budget is fully balanced and, in fact, we shall have a surplus.”
Babeu’s congressional campaign television ad says he wants to be judged on his record. I agree. He should be judged on his record. Any fair interpretation of that record, however, is that he has failed miserably in the administration of his office and has brought unprecedented disgrace to Pinal County.
Only he can bring an end to the sordid notoriety and unwanted publicity investigations of his activities are bringing to Pinal County. The several investigations will grind on for who knows how long. Only he can bring finality to these investigations.
Only he can end continuing critiques of his latest transgressions against acceptable law enforcement and his disregard for credible fiscal management of public resources.
How many more humiliating revelations about the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office have to be disclosed?
Pinal County’s residents deserve better; and congressional district voters deserve better.
I repeat, Paul Babeu do the decent thing. Resign and let the County begin rebuilding its reputation as a welcoming place to invest, an accommodating place to create jobs, a wholesome place to buy a home, and a decent place to raise a family. Our place is everything.
Sheriff Babeu, resign and let the healing begin.
